“FOLLOW ME"

“Just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4)
The Scriptures in the Gospel of Matthew tells about the calling of the Disciples. “Jesus was walking by the Sea of Galilee and he saw two brothers, fishermen, Simon who is called Peter, and Andrew his brother. They were casting their nets into the sea. He said to them, ‘Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.’ Immediately they left their nets and followed him.” Again, he saw two other brothers, James and John and he called them. “Immediately they left the boat and their father, and followed him.”
What does it really mean to follow Jesus? As I look beyond the actual meaning, I find that for me to hear the call and to follow Jesus is to stop, immediately, that which I have been doing, release and let go of my old ways, and to turn my thoughts and energy on to a new path of life. To follow the example of the teachings of Jesus is to acknowledge my own Christ consciousness and to celebrate the feeling of God’s loving presence in my life.
Today is Easter. Today we celebrate the overcoming trials of doubt and fear that have darkened our mind. We die to the old and are resurrected into a new awareness through the awakening of our eternal nature with God. “I (we) rise and shake off the past…the heavy stone rolls away in the bright morning light” (DW 4’24’2011).
